My special interest is in how conversations can be used to free up people’s motivation to change their behaviour. After becoming a registered nurse I moved into counselling people with addiction problems and learned lots from many years experience of running services in day centres, rehabilitation units, primary health care, prisons and medical settings. Alongside working part-time counselling people with gambling problems , most of my work now is passing on this learning through teaching and developing training materials around motivation and change.
I am an active member of the International Network of Motivational Interviewing Trainers

“I completed this step 3 motivational interviewing course with Pip and Toni. It’s hard to write down just how beneficial it has been both for me personally and for my practice with clients. Pip and Toni are both artists when it comes to offering skills for people to use and then maintaining the space for them to practice. I wanted to learn how to stay longer with ambivalence rather than succumbing to the righting reflex. Through observed practice I was able to identify obstacles and work with the client to explore and resolve their ambivalence around change. I have noticed that my practice with clients in my job has really transformed as a result and colleagues have commented the same. I would recommend this course for anyone working with people around any sort of behaviour change!”
“I attended Pips Advanced MI course last year which was absolutely fantastic, I learnt so much and was recently accepted for a new job based on my strong MI skills! Thanks Pip. The Health Behavior Change book and her videos are also a great resource for further practice.”
“I would highly recommend all 3 stages of Pip Mason’s MI training programme. It offers great insights int Motivational Interviewing as well as equipping you with practical skills so you can support and motivate others who are experiencing ambivalence about change and may want to make lasting changes to their lives. There is also plenty of time and space provided for you to be able to talk through any reflections you may have about MI and how to relate it to your practice. A great course.”
