Quick Overview

This course is for health and welfare professionals who want to promote healthy lifestyles harm-reduction with their clients but who have little time available to do in-depth counselling.

For staff of alcohol and drug agencies in England the course supports DANOS standards HSC330, HSC3111, HSC233, HSC33, AF2, AI1

By the end of the course participants will be able to

  • describe a model for understanding motivation and change
  • help clients explore their interest in change and their confidence in their ability to do it
  • inform clients about the benefits of change without eliciting resistance
  • demonstrate an understanding of the key principles of behaviour change

Pip Mason
Pip is a nurse, trained in cognitive-behavioural approaches to counselling people with addictions problems. She is co-author (with Steve Rollnick and Chris Butler) of Health Behavior Change, A Guide for Health Professionals and author of numerous training packages relating to substance use, counselling and health promotion. Pip is a member of the international network of motivational interviewing trainers.
